Specialized courses

In the SSI system, after earning an OWD certificate you can become an advanced diver by completing four specialties. With us, you can choose from the following courses:

Navigation

You can already learn the basics of navigation during the Open Water Diver course, but many beginner divers are content with simply following the dive guide. Understanding how to navigate a dive site enhances your comfort, confidence, and safety during underwater adventures. The SSI Navigation Specialty program provides in-depth information about the necessary equipment, skills, knowledge, and experience required to safely navigate an underwater dive site using both a compass and natural navigation techniques.

Prerequisite: OWD or Junior OWD certification

The course includes two shore dives.

Perfect Buoyancy Course

Your dive will be more spectacular, confident, and enjoyable if you achieve perfect buoyancy. This helps protect your environment, preserve your equipment, and optimize your air consumption. During the course, you will learn techniques to master these skills. It’s an exciting course with many fun and playful exercises.

Prerequisite: OWD or Junior OWD certification

The course includes two shore dives.

Dive stress & Rescue

One of the main causes of diving accidents is stress. In this course, you will learn how to prevent it, recognize it if it arises, manage it, and resolve problems both on the surface and underwater. We will go through the steps of self-rescue and buddy rescue in detail. This is a 2-3 day course focused primarily on practical training.

Prerequisite: AOWD, CPR + First Aid course

The course includes 3 dives, or up to 4 if necessary.

Night diving course

Some marine creatures are not visible during the day because they are nocturnal. That is why it is important to learn the right techniques to dive comfortably and safely after dark. You will learn how to use specialized equipment, communicate effectively in low-visibility conditions, and follow the rules of night diving.

Prerequisite: OWD or Junior OWD certification

The course includes one daytime and one nighttime dive, as well as the use of lighting equipment.

Science of Diving

The course provides detailed information on physical, physiology, decompression theory, the underwater environment, and diving equipment. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the physical forces and pressures encountered during a dive, as well as the body’s reactions to depth. The course also covers currents, visibility, and marine life, all of which impact safe diving. Additionally, it explores the operation and maintenance of diving equipment. This course is a fundamental part of SSI professional diver training and a mandatory component of some Extended Range programs.

Prerequisite: OWD certification

This course does not include dives.

Boat Diving

In this course, you will learn about different types of dive boats and gain insight into the advantages and techniques of boat diving. You will master the proper methods to safely dive from various types of dive boats anytime, anywhere. The course covers entry and exit techniques, movement on board, as well as boat-related safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Prerequisite: OWD certification

The course includes two boat dives.

DVP / Diving with a Scooter

This course introduces you to diving with a scooter. Through practical training, you will master the correct techniques, including proper body positioning and breath control. In addition to learning how to handle an underwater scooter, you will become familiar with its types, capabilities, limitations, and related regulations. You will also learn how to choose the right equipment for different diving conditions and understand maintenance procedures. The theoretical sessions cover safety protocols and emergency procedures essential for scooter diving. By the end of the course, you will be able to dive safely with this technique anywhere.

Prerequisite: OWD certification

The course includes one confined water dive and two open water dives.

Computer diving

Today, almost every training system recommends or requires the use of a dive computer during dives. Explore the underwater world with cutting-edge technology at your fingertips. Say goodbye to dive tables and embrace real-time data for a safer and more efficient diving experience.
You’ll learn which data is essential before, during, and after a dive, as well as between dives. Discover the wonders beneath the waves and dive into the future with a dive computer!

Prerequisite: OWD certification

The course includes two shore dives.
